About the Exhibition
Seeking Space for Spirit will be the first exhibition in Beijing by Taiwan sculptor Li Zhen, who successfully held an exhibition called Energy in the Void at the 52nd Biennial Exhibition in Venice in 2007. It will show about thirty masterpieces from different periods of his career since 1998, such as The Carefree Country, Guanyin Riding a Dragon and Mimi, as well as his latest works in 2008. His study of Buddhist and Taoist classics explains his interest in nature and self-cultivation, and his awareness of the present day has led to the attempt to invent an unconventional and individualized language of sculpture. His works show the flexibility of oriental philosophy by connecting the zen-style tranquility with amusing innocence, and simplicity with natural charm.
